Job Description:
My client is searching for a Legal Assistant to join their Wills and Probate team based in Birkenhead, Merseyside.
Job purpose:
To provide an effective and comprehensive administration service, working as part of a collaborative and collegiate Wills and Probate team by:
• Dealing with direct emails and telephone calls from regional managers of the Unions and Thompsons.
• Make calls to the Probate Registry.
• Contacting members to assist with any issues they are having when trying to complete their free online will (this could be because of IT issues, ticked the incorrect box etc)
• Reviewing emails where the process has been locked for certain members (IHT, care home protection, foreign assets etc)
• Passing details of those members who need a more complex Will which, therefore, does not qualify under the free Will system to the staff member who informs the members of costs for a payable service.
• Daily review of the additional will services email inbox.
• If the member cannot complete a free online Will then a paper application needs to be sent to that member to complete.
• Weekly reports of stats to various members of staff.
• Report to team leader with any complaints or technical issues.
• Assisting with basic will drafting and preparing of bills.
Skills and Experience
• Ideally previous Wills and Probate experience
• Ability to work under own initiative and as a member of a team
• Ability to work proactively
• Good communication skills
• Computer literate/keyboard skills
• Data entry skills
• Team working
• Experience of Microsoft packages
• Ideally a knowledge of conveyancing processes and procedures
• Ideally experience of Proclaim electronic case management system or similar
Relevant education/training
• Proven ability in numeracy and verbal and written communication
• 5 GCSE or equivalent including English Language and Mathematics
• It would be desirable but not essential to have 2 or more A levels or equivalent
