Job Description:
A Financial Times, top 1000 Fintech company is looking to expand its analytics team and seek a Data Scientist. The analytics team are at the core of the company and are responsible for all things data related.
Through thoughtful insights, critical analysis, and data understanding, we are empowered to make the business better.
Machine learning, data science, applied statistics - call it what you will, but there is no denying the benefits that a full understanding of your data can bring. This is an exciting opportunity within the Analytics team to kick-start the company’s capabilities and have a say in the direction and scope of the use of data science in the company.
You’ll be responsible for all machine learning and statistical models across the company, defining the roadmap and priorities in alignment with the company’s strategy, as well as having the possibility to expand the team out to your own design.
This role reports to the Chief Credit Risk and Analytics Officer, who reports to the CEO.
• Use data science/machine learning techniques for prediction, automation, behavioural analysis
• Analysis to support and/or identify new projects, products and business opportunities, including presentation of findings and suggestions to senior management
• Own the model validation and review process
• Proactively identify areas of the business where Analytics can add value via insight or automation
• Act as an internal consultant, interpreting user requests and where appropriate, making suggestions for better/alternative ways of achieving the desired outcome
• Regularly explore and investigate new tools and techniques for analysis, modelling, data exploration, presentation, making suggestions and implementing them as appropriate
• Regular use of Python, T-SQL, and Excel
• Contribute to documentation of core processes and procedures
• Potential to learn and use additional tools/languages as the team and business needs evolve
• In-depth knowledge of ML algorithms and associated languages (Python and/or R)
• 3+ years of experience in a similar role
• It would be ideal if you have some experience deploying models into production
• Knowledge of scorecard building is highly desirable
• You have good knowledge of T-SQL and SQL databases
• Experience with Cloud services a plus (ideally AWS)
• Degree or work experience in a numerate or analytical subject (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Physics, Engineering, Accounting, Finance or similar)
• Analytical mindset - you spot trends and notice details, and have a natural intellectual curiosity
• You are a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit who can take ownership and work independently towards tight deadlines, prioritising your work appropriately
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; you are comfortable presenting and explaining technical information in a non-technical way
• Strong service focus and a passion for delivering high quality end-user experience to internal and external clients
• Comfortable identifying and raising issues, particularly where driving good outcomes for customers are concerned
• Desire to work in a fast-growing, fast-paced environment with a "start-up" feel
• Lifelong learner - you have a drive to learn and continually develop your skills and abilities
