Job Description:
Tobacco Dependency Advisor
* Location: Ipswich Hospital, East Suffolk
* Job Type: 4 – 6 Weeks (possible extension)
We are seeking a Tobacco Dependency Advisor to join our team at a leading NHS Foundation Trust. This role is integral to delivering an evidence-based behavioural change smoking cessation programme and tobacco treatment for tobacco users aged 12 years and over in acute in-patient care. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting individuals to quit smoking and lead a healthier lifestyle, embodying our core values of being personal, expert, understanding, caring, and accountable.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Facilitate 1:1 Stop Smoking sessions to in-patients at Ipswich hospital, enabling effective and sustainable smoking cessation.
* Provide telephone interventions for clients, including pre-op referrals and post-discharge follow-ups.
* Use coaching strategies and behaviour therapy skills to negotiate change and overcome barriers to smoking cessation.
* Exchange information with patients using persuasion, reassurance, tact, and empathy, considering any barriers such as physical impairments or mental health conditions.
* Support and assist other staff members in delivering care as directed.
* Be responsible for clinical administration tasks and management of resources within the clinical area.
* Regularly evaluate programme success through data analysis and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
* Adhere to local and national safeguarding procedures and support the patient assessment and monitoring process.
* Undertake timely and accurate data collection on patient referrals, contacts, and outcomes, ensuring all recording systems are up-to-date.
* Support engagement and networking to promote the service to stakeholders, clients, and health professionals.
Required/Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
* A relevant qualification or experience in Health promotion, Health Advisory, Education, Psychology, Behaviour change, or a related field. Transferable skill considered.
* Level 2 trained Smoking Cessation Advisor - desirable
* Experience in a stop smoking related field or similar and working in a healthcare environment.- Desirable
* Proficiency in accessing and utilising IT systems.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to conduct remote sessions effectively.
* Coaching skills and the ability to plan and deliver engaging smoking cessation sessions.
* Self-motivated with strong organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet targets.
