SSE has big ambitions to be a leading energy company in a low carbon world. Following our commitment to invest £20.5 billion in low carbon projects to 2027, we have significant growth plans and are well on our way to achieving our ambition to build a world that’s more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.
Join us on our journey to net zero and help us power change.
About the Role

Base Location: Reading or Havant
Salary: £44,195 - £50,611 and a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available
Join our established Integration Layer Service Improvement team, where we’re passionate about supporting Oracle SOA Fusion Middleware. As part of our cloud transition journey, we’re expanding our portfolio to include Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC). Our team will lead the migration of existing SOA integrations to OIC over the next few years, ensuring seamless support for existing SOA Fusion integrations. Additionally, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping new integration functionality within OIC. This will ultimately deliver on our commitment to our cloud-first approach by establishing efficient and scalable integration processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Setup: Whenever possible, participate in the initial installation and setup of both Oracle SOA Fusion Middleware and Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC). Understand the underlying core infrastructure of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), as both SOA and OIC run on OCI. Configure and create the necessary resources for SOA and OIC servers.
- Business Logic Development: Develop business logic using BPEL components and activities in Oracle SOA Suite using JDeveloper. Design and implement integration workflows in Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC). Translate business processes and needs into integration workflows, documenting use cases, data mappings, and business rules.
- Integration Design: Collaborate with architects and cross-functional teams to design integrations using service-oriented architecture (SOA) principles in both SOA and OIC. Leverage other OCI services to enhance integration solutions. For example, you can protect REST-based integrations with API Gateway, invoke Oracle Functions, or work with Object Storage buckets.
- Security and Policies: Enable security by defining and applying policies to your SOA and OIC composite applications. Manage access control, authentication, and authorization. Understand how to secure Oracle Cloud Infrastructure components, including compute, storage, networking, and security.
- Deployment and Testing: Deploy SOA composite applications and OIC integrations, ensuring they meet performance, scalability, and reliability requirements. Participate in user acceptance testing to validate integration functionality.
What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Knowledge of or demonstrable skills in Oracle SOA Fusion and Oracle Integration Cloud or comparable software.
- Solid experience supporting middleware systems.
- High skill levels in one or more of Unix, Aix or Linux.
- Specification and development skills in any scripting or programming languages.
- Thorough understanding of agile principles and DEVOPS practices.
