Job Description:
Role: Science Technician
Salary: £13.50-14.50 per hour
Hours: 8.15am - 3:30pm Monday to Friday, term time only
Location: Wandsworth
Role Overview:
As a Science Technician, you will play a vital role in creating a stimulating and safe learning environment for students. Your responsibilities will include:
* Preparing and setting up equipment and materials for science practical sessions, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
* Maintaining an organised inventory of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and materials, ensuring stock levels are sufficient and placing orders as needed.
* Assisting teachers and students during practical lessons, providing technical support and guidance.
* Conducting routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure their proper functioning and safety.
* Monitoring and enforcing health and safety regulations within the laboratories, prioritising the well-being of staff and students.
* Assisting in the proper disposal of hazardous waste materials following established protocols.
* Collaborating with the Science Department to develop and improve practical resources, experiments, and demonstrations.
* Supporting the Science Department in conducting demonstrations and experiments during open days and other school events.
Requirements:
To excel in this role, we are seeking candidates with the following qualifications and qualities:
* Previous experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably within an educational environment.
* An interest in science and a basic understanding of scientific principles.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to adhering to health and safety procedures.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with teachers, students, and staff members.
* Proficiency in using basic laboratory equipment and familiarity with scientific software and computer applications.
* A proactive and flexible approach to work, adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
* A relevant qualification in science or laboratory techniques is advantageous but not essential.

* Ideally be a science graduate or have basic A levels in Science
* Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional reference checks
* CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible
