We are currently recruiting within our Research & Development team for a Senior Development Technologist
to work within our Technology, Innovation and Optimisation Team.You will manage multiple, complex projects involving cost optimisation and new technology, both product and process based. You will act as support on process knowledge and capability and be accountable for R&D actions through project stage gate process.

In this role the key responsibilities will include:

Search continuously for potential to optimise recipes process and/or the raw material portfolio.
Identify, initiate and deliver opportunities for cost saving and quality improvements.
Provide support on process related topics to Operations and Quality Teams and R&D.
Translate customer and business objectives into a robust recipe solution quickly.
Manages the cost calculation on all developments.
Regularly works in the kitchen or pilot plant area; prepares and presents innovative concept samples to internal and external partners.
Act as a Project Manager as required; hold and attend project meetings, escalate issues and risks.
Maintains awareness of developments challenges and trends affecting the dairy industry.
Actively researches and investigates novel technologies that could benefit Muller.
Work closely with Group R&D to maximise collaboration and knowledge transfer between the UK and Germany.
Plans organise and control scale up trials through effective communication with planning and production colleagues.
Produce clear and complete trial reports
Build strong relationships with supply base of product category and is aware of supplier innovation capability.
Deputise for the R&D Manger as necessary.
Potential requirement to manage and motivate 1-2 direct reports or a small sub-team.
Travel to other Muller manufacturing sites or 3rd party co-packers across the UK when required.

Key skills & experience

BSc/MSc in Food Science/Science/Dairy Technology or corresponding degree level.
Experience in project management; excellent project management skills and knowledge of NPD processes.
Essential-Minimum of 5 years experience working in an established NPD/R&D team in the food industry.
Strong in-depth knowledge of dairy science and processing.
Proven track record of leading successful new product launches.
Good MS Office skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Understand HACCP principles.
Excellent understanding of relevant food legislation /standards with working knowledge of food law, ingredient list and nutrition tables.
Inquisitive and creative.
Assertive and confidence to challenge.
Excellent team player.
