Transition into Engineering (fully funded)
AWE are offering a unique opportunity to re-train and transition into a full-time, permanent role within our Engineering team.
AWE is based in west Berkshire. Our transition-into-engineering route offers a rare and cost-effective opportunity to switch careers into cutting-edge engineering.
The world is changing and AWE’s challenging and expanding work need new employee with new skills and new ideas. There are not enough trained engineers coming through the traditional apprenticeship and university routes to meet our needs. So, we are ’thinking outside the box’ by creating this new route for people to get into engineering after a few years in other (non-technical) careers. What we offer:
If your application is successful, you will be employed as a full-time permanent employee:
* Starting Salary: £24,270 to £27,000 depending on experience

* Starting role: Technical Administrator

* Location: Aldermaston, Berkshire and High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

For the first year of employment:
* Your Technical Administrator role will be one-day per week on site at Aldermaston, Berkshire, helping the smooth running of engineering projects from an admin perspective. This will enable you to start to gain knowledge of some of our engineering work.

* For the remainder of the week, you will study a full-time level 3 engineering foundation course on-campus at Buckinghamshire New University in High Wycombe ("full-time" actually means about 15 hours of formal lectures/practicals/tutorials per week, with the rest of your time being for self-study and revision).

AWE will pay the £9,250 fee for your level 3 Engineering foundation course at Buckinghamshire New University.
From year 2 onwards, after successful completion of the Foundation course, you will be located full-time at AWE sites at either Aldermaston or Burghfield, Berkshire. You will have access to the following:

Areas that may be available to you are subject to business need, your performance in the foundation course and your personal interests.
How we will re-invigorate your career
The level 3 foundation course is a generic engineering course allowing you to move into any engineering discipline for future study and a future career.
Once in an engineering role we will support you (if you wish) to work towards professional registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) or Chartered Engineer (CEng). This includes mentoring and additional training.

This opportunity is available for UK Citizens, who have resided in the UK for at least the past 10 years. All candidates must be willing and able to undergo the process to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
