Paisley / Barrhead, West of Scotland
£12.00 - £12.75 per hour / £23,088 - £24,526 pro rata
Part Time positions available - 12-20 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our West of Scotland team. We are seeking to appoint Autism Practitioners to support a 38 year old man. The gentleman requires support to engage in activities that he enjoys. He will require support to navigate a large upcoming transition in his life over the coming months.

He is a polite, pleasant, kind, caring, and helpful individual who is an integral part of a small and loving family.

The person has an active social calendar and a personalised programme of support incorporating consistency and structure specific to his needs. Some activities that he enjoys are:

- Marvel - all things related to Marvel
- Spending time on computers
- Swimming and trips to the cinema
- Spending time with family
- Walking in his local community and further afield
- Attending a local art class

At Scottish Autism, we acknowledge the specialist support our staff provide to autistic people therefore those doing support work are known as Autism Practitioners. We provide outstanding training and are continuously improving to ensure all our Autism Practitioners are supported and have the skills to deliver a quality service.

Successful candidates will have knowledge of or be willing to learn about a Low Arousal Approach and creating stress free environments.

As an Autism Practitioner, experience of working within social care is desirable but not essential as we are seeking to appoint people who share our values and are willing to learn and develop into the role. Autism Practitioners will work as a team to:

- Support the gentleman to feel safe, understood, relaxed, content and happy in all areas of his life
- Implement personalised support plans to ensure consistency for the person during a time of uncertainty and change
- Build positive relationships with the gentleman and his family
- Work with stakeholders to ensure the supported individuals’ life goals and aspirations are at the centre of their support

On a day-to-day basis, Autism Practitioners will enable the gentleman:

- To take part in their chosen activities (see some listed above)
- To empower him to make decisions that matter to him
- As described above, the individual enjoys a busy social calendar and requires support to enable this

As part of your role, you will be required to undertake shift work, including weekends, and evenings and so flexibility towards working hours is key.

These posts are subject to a PVG Disclosure check. All new employees must have applied to register with the Scottish Social Services Council within 3 months of starting in post and be registered within 6 months. Scottish Autism cover all the costs of PVG membership and SSSC Registration for employees.
