Base Location: Flexible UK | We’re proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base ’home’ location to be one of our SSEN offices in Scotland, ideally one of our main offices in Perth, Inverness, Aberdeen and Glasgow.
Salary: £55,573 - £63,643 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

We are looking for a Lead Land Consents Manager to join our busy team in Scotland!
Our Land Consents team are a pivotal resource for the successful delivery of our project portfolio in order to support capex and connections project delivery across our electricity Distribution Network.
In this role you’ll be in charge of a team securing, maintaining and managing strategic land and property rights for underground cables, overhead lines and ground mounted plant on both public and privately-owned land.
The Lead Consents Manager will provide strategic as well as specialist advice across the portfolio and oversee project level strategy-setting and budget-setting and management of your own team and contractors’ KPI’s.
The main responsibilities within this role will be to:
- Line management of a team of Land Consents Managers and Senior Land Consents Managers, owning the recruitment of, training, and development for team members.
- Scope, design and implement consenting strategies at portfolio level to deliver consents and permits applicable across the projects, comprising new build and retrofit low carbon capex and new customer connections infrastructure.
- Identify, instruct and manage external consents resources as required, working closely and co-ordinating with your team and the wider project teams made up of Environmental, Project Services, Legal, Engineering and Finance & Procurement teams.
- Identify and manage Consents and permitting risks including optioneering and mitigation strategies and ensure timeous escalation.
- Ensure the successful delivery of all necessary consents, permits and licences, including Town and Country Planning, DCO/CPO, Safety, Environmental, and Marine (where relevant), to support recommendations for all Governance Investment Decision (ID) points, and ultimate project delivery including discharge of planning condition and/or DCO/CPO requirements to support project implementation.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Substantial knowledge and experience of Scottish planning, consenting and environmental requirements for major capital projects (including, Town and Country Planning, Development Consent Order/CPO, Section 37 Consent, Environmental Permitting, and other relevant matters). Ideally aware of English systems and legislation around these aspects.
- Be a member of any of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Member of Institute of Environment Management and Assessment or other related professional body.
- A minimum of 3 years managing a consents delivery team - ideally within a DNO/TNO business or within a related industry.
- Knowledge and experience of Commercial drivers and the Project Lifecycle for major infrastructure projects, and experience of operating in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- The ability to communicate at all levels within the business, landowners and their agents, and external organisations, Stakeholders and interested groups such as Local Communities, Local Authorities and Statutory Consultees.
This role requires you to have a full UK driving licence.
