Job Description:
We need a passionate and experienced mental health nurse to work in a well-established team at an acute hospital in South West England, assisting and supporting general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations.
Description:
The priority for the post holder will be to provide:
* High level of nursing and observation
* Delivering a range of nursing and psychosocial interventions to help reduce patients’ distress
* Assist and support general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations
* Provide one-to-one nursing for behaviorally disturbed, distressed, or confused patients
* Offer support and advice to patients presenting with a range of undifferentiated mental health, psychological problems, and psychiatric illnesses
* Deliver a range of nursing and psychosocial interventions to individual patients and their families, as appropriate
* Represent mental health services within the general hospital
Skills:
* Demonstrable experience of working in a mental health setting
* Knowledge and experience of adult safeguarding procedures
* Ability to restrain patients using approved techniques
* Handling and appropriately storing patient valuables
* Ability to deal with emotional and distressing situations
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Respect for the privacy and dignity of individuals
* Ability to manage demanding situations
* Ability to cope with exposure to aggressive behavior
* Ability to plan own workload
* Knowledge of Mental Health presentations and appropriate interventions
* Understanding of the NMC Code of Conduct
* Knowledge of risk management and how to plan care to account for risk
