An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Catering Assistant to join our client’s vibrant Land of Oak & Iron Team.
Café/Front of House Assistant
Location: Winlaton Mill, Gateshead
Salary: Under 21 £8.60 per hour - 21 and over National Living Wage (£11.44 per hour)
Hours: Casual / 0 Hours

Completed in 2018 the Land of Oak & Iron Heritage Centre is set within the beautiful Derwent Valley with an abundance of natural woodland and rare wildlife. It covers a 177km2 area in the Derwent Valley making it one of the North East’s most rewarding and exciting area’s to explore. At the heart of the Land of Oak & Iron is the Heritage Centre, from there people enjoy a variety of events, creative workshops, guided walks & talks. You’ll find the Cafe located in the Heritage Centre, with fresh seasonal ingredients and produce have been locally sourced wherever possible to showcase what the north east region has to offer.
About the role
Collaborating with a supportive brigade, you’ll play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of the catering services. Your responsibilities will include front-of-house duties, serving customers, crafting hot beverages, operating the till, and ensuring exceptional customer care. Maintaining consistently high standards of service, hygiene, and health & safety will also be a key focus.
This role demands a positive and adaptable mindset, coupled with the ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced customer-centric environment. It’s essential to be available for weekend shifts and occasional evening work.

The casual hours contract operate on a 0 hours contract basis with no regular fixed hours.
About you
They are seeking someone who is outgoing and enthusiastic, preferably with experience of customer service in a fast paced catering environment. You will be an excellent communicator who is open, honest and acts with integrity. You will be flexible and willing to tackle any task or role assigned.
