Job Description:
We are looking for experienced Band 5/6 children’s nurses to work in one of the trusts in South East London. The Trust has a children’s unit that offers a range of surgical day care procedures and medical treatments and investigations not suitable for an outpatient setting.
Responsibilities:
* Assess care needs of babies, children, and adolescents; develop and implement care programs, and evaluate their effectiveness.
* Work in partnership with children and their families to support family-centered care and encourage their involvement.
* Support parents, carers, siblings, and other members of the child’s support network.
* Set and maintain high standards of nursing care, ensuring adherence to nursing guidelines and policies.
* Participate in the reception, care, and discharge of children, ensuring they receive safe and competent care.
* Address spiritual, psychological, and emotional needs of the child and their family, preparing them for discharge with clear future care plans.
* Liaise with the Children’s Community Nursing Team, GP, Social Services, Health Visitor, Community Midwife, or School Nurse regarding discharge issues.
* Maintain custody of drugs, ensure familiarity with emergency equipment and procedures, and develop nurse-led clinics and play facilities for children in collaboration with the hospital play specialist team.

* Computer literate
* Ability to plan and prioritise care for patients and cannulation skills
* Committed to family-centered care
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent numeracy skills
* Good time management and teaching skills
* Ability to work well both in a team and on own initiative
* Ability to delegate tasks as appropriate
* Demonstrates compassion in practice
Essential:
* Experience of having worked with acute/chronically sick children or specialised transferable skills
* Understanding of professional and current issues in children’s nursing
* Understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice
* Basic knowledge of computer skills
* Understanding of safeguarding issues according to Trust policies and procedures
* Understanding or evidence of fulfilling requirements for revalidation
* Understanding of principles of clinical governance (e.g. risk management, audit, quality)
* Experience of working as part of a diverse team
* Experience of contributing to an inclusive workplace culture
