Job Description:
Join a Lambeth Education Institution as a Finance Officer and become a pivotal part of their Finance and Business team.
Duration of contract: 6 Months
Daily Rate: £126 - £150
Location: Lambeth, Onsite 100%
Hours per week: 35 hours per week
This role involves supporting the Headteacher(s) and the Finance & Business Lead in the provision of a customer focused business support to ensure Headteachers are accountable budget holders to ensure their financial needs are met.
Role Responsibilities:
* Assist by providing strategic business support and fostering strong relationships to maintain responsible budget management and meet financial objectives.
* Facilitate sound financial practices including planning, management, reconciliations, finalising school accounts, and ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with statutory requirements.
* Enhance financial skills and ensure adherence to financial systems among school administrative personnel.
* Verify the accuracy of the school’s financial records and ensure proper accounting entries are made for all transactions.
* Implement and oversee budgetary control measures, ensure policy compliance, and streamline processes for financial efficiency.
* Build and maintain productive relationships with essential school stakeholders and Local Authority representatives.
* Execute comprehensive financial tasks including issuing purchase orders, processing payments, conducting thorough reconciliations, and managing central charges and music service fees.
* Manage debt collection for the school and provide support in contractual matters, including leases and licenses.
* Assist with financial reporting to Governors and local authorities as needed.
* Possess the capability to challenge and question spending not in line with budget
Person Specification
Essential:
* Knowledge/experience of working in maintained schools, and understanding school accounts
* Experience of school budget setting, budget monitoring and closure of accounts
* Good communication skills and ability to establish good working relationships
* Experience in using Xero and school finance systems, strong IT and Excel skills
Desirable:
* Financial qualification (CIPFA/AAT) or studying towards one
