Job Description:
Role: Outdoor Education Instructor
Location: Tiverton
Contract: Full time, permanent
Start: As soon as possible
Are you passionate about creating enriching, hands-on learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom? Do you thrive in engaging young people in a creative, nurture-based and real-world learning to help them discover their unique strengths? We are excited to recruit a dedicated Outdoor Education Instructor to join the team at a vibrant SEN school that specialises in supporting students with autism and ADHD.
About the role:
As an Outdoor Education Instructor, you’ll take the lead in designing and delivering an alternative curriculum that extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom. Working in close partnership with a multidisciplinary team, you’ll create and manage outdoor learning programs and sensory-based activities, tailored to the needs of the students. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic educator who is eager to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people with additional needs.
Key responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver outdoor education based activities: Develop and lead a curriculum focused nature-based, practical and sensory activities that support social skills, emotional regulation and academic goals in line with the national curriculum.
* Individualised learning: Tailor activities to suit the needs of each student, incorporating strategies that promote engagement, skill building and personal growth.
* Collaboration: Work closely with classroom teachers, SEN specialists and therapists to align LOTC activities with classroom learning objectives and therapeutic goals
* Safety and wellbeing: Ensure a safe, supportive and stimulating environment for all students, being mindful of the sensory and behavioural needs associated with ASD and ADHD
The ideal candidate:
* Experience of a range of outdoor education activities: eg canoeing, climbing
* Relevant outdoor education qualifications: eg Forest School Level 3, Outdoor NGB awards
* Passion for outdoor education: Demonstrated experience in or a passion for delivering outdoor and experiential learning activities
* Understanding of ASD and ADHD: Knowledge of best practices in supporting students with ASD, ADHD and related needs
* Strong communication skills: Ability to engage effectively with students, staff and families, and to foster positive, supportive relationships
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, with experience with special educational needs (SEN) would be advantageous but not essential
* Minibus driver: minibus driving certificate would be advantageous
Working Hours:
8:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday, term-time only.
If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact and join a supportive school community, we would love to hear from you!
