Salary: £22.94 - £27.04 per hour
Our client is 18 years old; he currently lives at home with his Mum, Dad, two younger sisters and family dog. It is hoped that soon his time will be split between living at home and living at Bath Spa University. He is a highly intelligent, outgoing, and charming young man with a wide range of interests and hobbies, including listening to music, writing poetry, baking, and enjoying church activities. He is extremely articulate and uses an e-tran spelling board to communicate. Our client has complex medical needs and requires assistance with all areas of personal and self-care, has 24 hour extra oxygen, has a gastrostomy PEG and uses a BiPAP ventilator during the night.
Responsibilities
Our client requires 2:1 support both at university and at home. He is currently undertaking a Creative Writing course at Bath Spa University. He is looking for staff to act as communication partners, to help with studies as well as fulfil his care needs. He also requires staff to support him socially so that he is able to enjoy all aspects of university life. It is important that candidates feel able to keep up with him at his academic level.
Role 1 – 52 weeks per year
Role 2 – University term time only – our client is also looking for part time staff to support him during university term times only, but this will involve working with him both at home and at university.
Hours of work
The roles are for 25 hours worked over several days in the week, working a mix of days, afternoons, evenings up until 10pm 7 days a week. Staff may be asked to stay on later if Jonathan has social activities planned. The rota is agreed a month in advance and preferred days to work/not work are accommodated where possible. Staff will also support our client on trips away and provide some occasional waking night support by prior negotiation . It is a busy household and the family and our client need staff who are willing to muck in as and when required with all tasks but also know when to step back to allow the family quality time together. Some household duties form part of the role. This is a no-smoking role.
Rates of pay
• Weekdays £22.94 per hour
• Saturday £22.94 per hour
• Sunday £25.05 per hour
• Weekday night £25.02 per hour
• Saturday night £25.02 per hour
• Sunday night £27.04 per hour
• Bank Holiday £25.02 per hour
• Bank Holiday night £27.04 per hour
Applicants must have a full driving licence, be able to drive the client’s large vehicle and for it be possible for us to obtain insurance to drive the client’s vehicle.
Experience of working with young people with complex needs is desirable. Full training will be provided.
Due to the nature of the role an enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service will be required.
