Job Description:
What ASEND Support Is
ASEND supports SEND pupils and continues their learning while they cannot access school or don’t have a school place. We are looking for a patient, engaging and experienced Tutor to help a 17-year-old student in Reading develop her communication and prepare her for adulthood.
Job details
Role: SEN Tutor
Working hours: 2 hours per day, 5 days per week (during school hours)
Pay: £30-38 per hour, DOE
Location: Reading
About the role
We are looking for a patient and understanding Tutor to support a 17-year-old girl with Autism and ADHD. She is non-verbal and communicates using objects of reference and physical cues. She needs someone who can create a calm and structured learning environment, adapt to her sensory needs, and engage her in short, simple activities. She enjoys sensory play, being outdoors, and swimming. The role involves helping her with basic life skills while encouraging her to engage and learn in a positive and supportive way. She can be a lively and bright girl, but her mood can quickly shift to being upset. A significant concern is her lack of awareness of hazards, making her prone to injury. However, she does show some understanding of danger in familiar settings, such as when climbing or running at home.
Our student requires someone who has worked in care/residential settings and has an interest in teaching and education, is Team Teach trained, and can deliver a fun, highly personalised sensory curriculum with frequent movement breaks. Knowledge of early communication strategies is essential.
If you think this is not the right role for you, do still apply as we are always on the lookout for people with different expertise to work with our pupils in various locations.
About you:
* You’ll have some experience with SEN: Non-verbal, Autism, ADHD, Behaviours of Concern, severe learning difficulties
* You may be an experienced Teaching Assistant or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way
* You’ll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement
* You’ll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan
* Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning
* Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils
* Use a person-centred approach in their work
* Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do
* Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.
Benefits:
* Generous and competitive rates of pay with a pay structure to increase your pay
* Pay scaling to enable you to increase your rate
* Opportunities for professional development
* Friendly support and guidance to enable you to meet the individual needs of learners and to ensure that you feel confident in your position
* Training in working with children with SEND
* Option to arrange work around the existing schedule
* Join a friendly and supportive team
At ASEND you will always be well supported by our highly qualified and experienced team and well-remunerated for your work.
