This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced design professional from a contractor background with expertise in AutoCAD to join our collaborative and innovative organisation.
You’ll have the chance to enhance your design expertise across multiple sectors while bringing creative, cost-effective solutions to life within a team-oriented environment where everyone works together to achieve brilliant results.
So, if you’re ready to drive sustainable and innovative design practices that make a lasting impact, we want to hear from you!
The Role
As a Design Manager, you will manage the design process for a variety of construction projects to achieve on-time, on-budget results.
Leading the project design phase, you will provide technical support and advise on design issues, maintain compliance with regulations and support the Commercial Department in identifying potential returns from design changes.
You’ll also oversee Health & Safety principles in design, fire safety plans, building control compliance and sustainability standards.
Additionally, you will:
- Ensure successful project delivery from estimation to handover
- Conduct site assessments and review topographical surveys, drainage and structural calculations
- Manage project value engineering and site setup plans
- Assist Contract and Site Managers with design and interface challenges
Top Goals for the first year:
- Integrating into the Modulek team
- Positive client relationships
- Successful delivery of a >£1 million project
- Meeting deadlines
- GP project performance linked to design value engineering and/or successful ’right first time’ design
- Client satisfaction survey feedback
About You
To be considered as our Design Manager, you will need:
- Experience in design management for a contractor
- Experience working on several projects simultaneously
- Experience using AutoCAD
- Knowledge of SMART Waste, BREEAM and building regulations
- An understanding of NHBC standards
- Contract awareness
- An architecture or construction related degree or equivalent qualification
- A full, valid driving licence
Personal Qualities
You tend to have a clear, well-thought-out vision and plan of what you want to achieve and will drive for that to be accomplished with persistence, conviction, determination and logic. You will tend to be rational and want to bring everyone along with consensus although achievement of the goal will probably take precedence over the group’s sensitivities. You are probably a self-directed, logical and methodical individual who wants to take responsibility and get things completed correctly and on time. You enjoy leadership responsibilities and can be direct when expressing your views while adhering to the most accepted social norms. You can show great determination even in the face of strong adversity. You appear calm, composed and unemotional under pressure most of the time. You have high levels of self-control with a strong drive to fit in with group norms. You typically set high personal standards for yourself and expect high standards from others. When people work willingly and successfully, you will be loud in their praise. You strive for self-improvement and prefer things neat, tidy and organised.
Other organisations may call this role Construction Design Manager, Design Project Manager, Construction Design Project Manager, or Technical Design Manager.
