We are working with Warrington Council to find a Project Engineer within the transport department.

Job Type: Full-time
Length of role: Initial 6 months.
Hourly rate: £38 per hour umbrella.

We are seeking an Assistant Projects Engineer to join our team in Warrington. This role involves assisting with the technical design, procurement, and supervision of a wide range of engineering and sustainable travel projects. The successful candidate will support the Council’s Local Transport Plan and capital investment programme, contributing to the ongoing economic success and regeneration of the area.

Day-to-day of the role:

-          Develop, design, procure, and supervise a range of infrastructure projects across the Service as promoted by the Council.

-          Manage risk across projects using appropriate risk management procedures, including escalation and mitigation measures.

-          Ensure appropriate procurement and contract management, meeting both corporate and legislative standards.

-          Consult and communicate with Members, officers, the community, and stakeholders to ensure projects meet public expectations.

-          Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required standard, resolving issues as they arise.

-          Assist in the production, review, and commissioning of design briefs, technical reports, contract documents, specifications, and detailed estimates.

-          Coordinate the production of surveys to assist in the preparation and delivery of infrastructure projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

-          Understanding of construction and civil engineering projects and relevant legislation. Working knowledge of legislation relating to Highways and current Highway design and specification guidance.

-          Experience in corresponding with the public, Council Members, MPs, and stakeholders.

-          Proven ability to deliver projects to deadlines using effective project management techniques.

-          Experience in contract management, tendering, and procurement that meets the requirements of Procurement Law and the Council’s procurement rules.

-          Experience in developing and delivering infrastructure/construction projects.

-          Ability to manage budgets through financial systems and perform budgetary reporting.

-          Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to persuade, influence, and develop positive working relationships.

-          HND in Civil Engineering or similar technical discipline at entry level; Degree in Civil Engineering or similar at higher grades.
