Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and understanding tutor to support a Year 11 learner in an alternative provision setting, either online or in person. The focus will be on helping the learner achieve success in their GCSEs by providing personalised academic support and fostering a comfortable, engaging learning environment.
Key Details:
Location: Lincoln (online or in-person options available)
Hours: 6.5 hours per week
Learner Profile: The learner has Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD, and SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
Responsibilities:
*GCSE Subject Support: Provide focused assistance in subjects where the learner requires additional help, tailoring methods to their strengths and needs.
Organisation and Study Skills: Assist the learner in organising themselves and their learning, ensuring they stay on top of tasks and develop strategies for effective time management and study habits.
Engaging Learning Activities: Incorporate the learner’s interests, such as football, darts, Fifa, and gym activities, into teaching strategies to create a more engaging and effective learning experience.
Individualised Approach: Adapt teaching methods to the learner’s preferred style, including:
*Providing clear, simple instructions.
*Allowing time for the learner to think and ask questions without rushing.
*Using written tasks, which the learner finds most effective.
*Encouraging conversations during physical activities like kicking a ball to help the learner focus.
Emotional Support: Recognise signs of stress, anger, or upset and respond with patience and understanding. Build a trusting relationship by using a calm tone, listening actively, and not rushing conversations.
Peer Influence: Be aware of the learner’s tendency to be easily led by their peers and provide guidance to help them build independence and self-confidence in their decision-making.
Routine and Motivation: Maintain a structured yet flexible approach to keep the learner on track while supporting their motivation and determination to succeed in their GCSEs and future goals.

*Uses a calm tone and listens attentively.
*Takes time with conversations and avoids rushing.
*Provides 1:1 support and creates a comfortable, focused environment.

Experience with SEN and SEMH: Proven ability to work with learners with Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD, and SEMH needs.
Organisation Skills: Ability to support the learner in developing strong organisational habits and study routines.
Empathy and Patience: Ability to create a supportive environment by recognising and responding to the learner’s emotional cues.
Adaptability: Skilled in tailoring teaching methods to the learner’s preferences, including incorporating physical activities into learning.
Encouraging and Motivational: Able to inspire confidence and keep the learner motivated towards achieving their GCSE goals.
