Hays Senior Finance are partnering with a public sector organisation in the Sheffield region who are looking to add a Senior Finance Business partner to their finance team.
Your new role
As Senior Finance Business partner, you will lead a finance team reporting to the Head of Finance. This is a high profile role and will require good management skills to ensure finance services are provided efficiently and professionally. You will also act as deputy to head of finance and, as well as with good management skills, will require well-developed accounting knowledge. You will provide leadership and proactive support to direct reports, non-finance colleagues and stakeholders.
Main responsibilities include;
*Challenge and influence stakeholders at all levels by ensuring all viable options have been considered when making key financial decisions, using your knowledge and expertise, identifying and recommend mitigation and solutions for complex accounting risks.
*Supporting the head of finance, deputising as required to lead, coach and motivate the finance team, providing support to ensure that priorities are identified, objectives are achieved and enhancing the overall level of performance
*Ensure financial transactions are processed in an accurate and efficient manner, with emphasis on strong financial controls. Stay ahead of changes in accounting standards, legal obligations and ensure relevant compliance with mandates of the sponsor department.
*Manage a team of finance business partners to ensure productivity of monthly management accounts, identify key variances against budget and ensure that timely accurate information is provided to management and relevant teams on a timely basis. Undertake separate analysis of budget variances and trends as required
*Have oversight of the finance business partners ensuring the provision of insightful analysis and interpretation of financial data to facilitate informed decision-making.
*Oversee the reconciliation of monthly accounts, with accurate monthly closing balances
*Support the Head Of Finance with preparation for, and satisfactory completion of the annual audit ensuring financial statements are accurate and in line with accounting standards, internal accounting policies and public sector reporting requirements
*Support the Head of Finance with budgeting and forecasting, actively participating in financial projections and plans
*Work with people development team to control and monitor payroll budgets across the organisation
*Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the organisation.
*Ensure finance systems and procedures are understood throughout the organisation and there is a high level of financial control implemented
What you’ll need to succeed
*Recognised accountancy qualification with post-qualification experience
*Experience of managing a finance team in processing financial and accounting transactions as well as production of management accounts and providing financial information with accompanying commentary to budget holders
*Experience of preparing annual accounts for audit and the publication of financial statements for public view
*Experience of supporting senior managers and stakeholders
*The ability to analyse and communicate complex financial information to identify risk and inform decision-making and recommend appropriate courses of action
*Experience of drawing upon a high degree of technical understanding and application of personal knowledge and experience
*Ability to manage fluctuating workloads
*Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to create and present clear, well-structured papers and present at- executive leadership level holders, supporting them to make sound and considered decisions and judgements
*Evidence of instilling confidence and credibility when dealing with sensitive, challenging and difficult situations
*Ability to influence colleagues and senior stake
