Job Description:
A fantastic Primary school based on the West Coast of Cumbria are looking to appoint a school Chef. The role is to start asap and is on a supply basis with the option of going permanent. The role is Monday to Friday 9am - 2.30pm.
The role is to plan and deliver school breakfasts and lunches to all students working alongside assistant cooks in the team.
The main responsibilities of a School Cook include:
*Creating menus that meet nutritional guidelines and cater to dietary needs.
*Cooking meals from scratch, or using pre-prepared ingredients, and in bulk.
*Monitoring inventory and placing orders for ingredients.
*Adhering to strict food safety regulations.
*Maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen.
*Collaborating with other staff members.
*Working within a designated budget for food supplies.
*Catering for special events or functions within the school.
*Minimising food waste.
*Gathering feedback regarding the meals served and making necessary adjustments.
*Potentially overseeing a team of kitchen assistants.
*Participating in professional development opportunities to enhance culinary skills.
*Staying updated on food safety regulations.
*Communicating with parents or guardians.
Certifications in food safety and hygiene, such as the Food Hygiene Certificate or Level 2 Food Safety qualification, are essential. Strong knowledge of nutrition, menu planning, portion control and allergy management is also beneficial.
Experience in quantity cooking, kitchen management, and a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment are desirable.
