Job Description:
Speech and Language Therapist *Contract Type: Fixed-term (until end of academic year)
*Location: South London Colleges
*Salary: £29,256.90 to £35,316 (pro-rata for 0.8 FTE)
*Working Days: 4 days per week (flexible across multiple locations)
We are seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to join our team, working with students aged 16-25 who have a range of learning and communication difficulties. This role is crucial in supporting students to access their college courses and achieve their full potential in academic, social, and employment settings.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities: *Conduct holistic Speech and Language therapy assessments and deliver person-centred interventions to support learners in developing functional skills across the curriculum.
*Understand and address the impact of communication difficulties on a person’s function and behaviour.
*Collaborate with teaching teams to manage students’ communication, social, and behavioural needs in various settings.
*Contribute to support plans and deliver staff training to ensure the curriculum is delivered at an appropriate language and communication level.
*Work closely with learners’ families, carers, and specialist community health and social care teams to facilitate a supportive learning environment.
*Engage in coaching, reflecting with staff, and class observations to enhance educational outcomes.
Required Skills & Qualifications: *Qualified Speech and Language Therapist, registered with the relevant professional body.
*Experience working with young adults with learning disabilities, specific learning difficulties, or autism.
*Strong understanding of the principles outlined in Valuing People (DOH 2002) and Valuing People Now.
*Ability to work flexibly across multiple locations and adapt to varying educational environments.
*Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
