Job Description:
Vehicle Technician *Location: City Development & Neighbourhoods, Fleet and Passenger Transport Service
*Job Type: Full-time
We are seeking a skilled Vehicle Technician to maintain the council’s fleet of vehicles, plant, and equipment. This role involves inspection, servicing, test preparation, fault diagnosis, and repair. The ideal candidate will be proactive, knowledgeable, and ready to contribute to our high standards of vehicle maintenance.
Day-to-day of the role: *Carry out vehicle, plant, and equipment inspections, servicing, test preparations, fault diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs, constituting 80% of the role.
*Complete all written or computerised vehicle and job sheet records upon completion of work, including descriptions of work carried out, parts used, and time taken.
*Interpret information received from drivers and users of plant and equipment, provide advice on actions to be taken, and give feedback on the work completed.
*Engage in miscellaneous tasks associated with the role.
Required Skills & Qualifications: *Mandatory MOT Tester Certificate.
*High level of communication and listening skills.
*Health & safety training relevant to a vehicle maintenance workshop environment.
*Proficient in using Workshop ICT systems, vehicle diagnostics, and electronic job cards.
*Ability to trace, diagnose, and repair vehicle, plant, and equipment faults, including the identification of necessary parts and equipment.
*Ability to accurately record work done and complete job sheets.
*Knowledge of appropriate trade tools and methods and their safe application.
*At least one of the following qualifications: IMI approved apprenticeship, Level 3 qualification in light/heavy vehicle or plant engineering.
*Full current driving licence and ability to drive all vehicle and plant types up to 32T GVM (Class C LGV licence preferred).
*Experience in servicing vehicles, plant, and equipment including fault diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
