About the Role:
The Imports Assistant will play a pivotal role in customs clearance, import/export processes, and customs warehouse operations. The position is best suited for someone who thrives under pressure, enjoys problem-solving, and takes satisfaction in overcoming challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
*Manage a high volume of customs clearance tasks and daily queries.
*Maintain and prepare detailed Excel reports (daily, weekly, monthly).
*Verify accuracy of customs clearance instructions and shipping documents.
*Monitor and update pre-shipment statuses for flagged containers (e.g., food, pet food, dangerous goods).
*Assist with HMRC audits and compliance checks.
*Handle urgent queries via phone and email.
*Submit DEFRA/IPAFFS CHEDP notifications as required.
*Liaise with Port Health, Customs, and Border Force on key matters.
*Track CFSP/Customs Warehouse UCR assignments and ensure data accuracy.
*Complete month-end customs warehouse reporting and reconcile HMRC data.
*Support compliance, trading teams, suppliers, and agents with shipping updates and queries.
*Perform administrative tasks and maintain the customs email inbox.
Person Specification:
*Genuine interest in customs clearance, shipping, or international trade (full training provided).
*High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy.
*Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities independently.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective engagement with stakeholders.
*Resilient under pressure, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
*Proficient in IT systems, especially Microsoft 365 and online platforms.
*Advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, lookups); intermediate-level knowledge required. Candidates may be tested on Excel proficiency during the recruitment process.
