Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced R&D Engineering Manager to lead the design, development, and testing of innovative electrical and mechanical products. In this role, you will oversee the full lifecycle of product development, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and alignment with company objectives. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on technical leadership, driving innovation, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
Overall Purpose Lead and manage the development and validation of high-quality electrical and mechanical products. Ensure efficient processes for design, testing, and conformity while maintaining rigorous compliance with national and international standards. Collaborate with internal departments and external suppliers to optimize production and sourcing while promoting continuous improvement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities *Drive the research, design, and validation of new products, as well as enhance existing products through value engineering.
*Oversee the development of next-generation solutions, ensuring compliance with national and international standards and alignment with marketing requirements.
*Ensure the creation and maintenance of technical documentation to meet regulatory and directive requirements.
*Implement and monitor design and development procedures in line with ISO9001 and sustainability policies.
*Manage testing, reporting, and safety protocols within the testing facility to ensure compliance and product reliability.
*Collaborate with production teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and optimized for manufacturing.
*Provide strategic guidance to procurement for sourcing external components.
*Collaborate with marketing to ensure technical accuracy in product documentation and promotional materials.
*Mentor and support the technical team on engineering-related challenges.
*Promote the use of CAD tools, including 2D and 3D software, to streamline design workflows.
*Uphold the company’s values and ethics while fostering collaboration across internal and external stakeholders.
Key Skills and Competencies *In-depth knowledge of UK Wiring Regulations and relevant international standards.
*Proven experience with complex product development projects and type testing programs.
*Advanced proficiency in AUTOCAD/INVENTOR or other 3D modeling systems.
*Strong IT skills, including engineering databases, spreadsheets, and presentations.
*Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal teams and external partners.
*Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
*Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
*Willingness to travel within and outside the UK as needed.
*Familiarity with ISO 17025 test facility requirements is highly desirable.
Education and Professional Recognition *Degree/HND in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
*Membership in a professional engineering institution such as the IET or IMechE is preferred.
Experience *Extensive experience in mechanical and electrical product design and testing within a manufacturing environment.
*Demonstrated success in working with regulated testing environments, ideally ISO 17025 accredited facilities.
