Key Stage 4 Teaching Assistant

Long - Term Teachers are working with an alternative provision based in Gloucester, who are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic teaching assistant to join them on a full time, permanent basis. You will be supporting students in Key stage 4, who have been permanently excluded from their mainstream school. The work is challenging but incredibly rewarding as you will be a part of helping young people move successfully into the next step of their education journey…
You will predominantly be offering classroom support, however there will be regular opportunities to offer 1:1 support. Other duties will include support the teacher to deliver effective lessons through using appropriate strategies to engage students in learning activities. You will be providing appropriate support to students to help them manage their behaviour, including out of class if necessary. Outside of the classroom, you will be monitoring breaktime duty and have the opportunity to go on school trips and after school clubs.
As you will be supporting students with special educational needs, it is paramount that you have previous experience of this, whether this is in a mainstream or specialist setting. The predominant need of the school is Social, Emotional, Mental Heath needs, with this comes challenging behaviour. You must be able to support the class teacher to manage behavior effectively, in a calm, collected manner.
You will be contracted to work full time, Monday to Friday, term time only. Commencing as soon as possible, you will begin on a temporary basis and then progress into a permanent placement once you have passed probation.
