Operations Manager - Suffolk
Salary - £36,492 to £45,615 per annum (plus benefits)

As an Operations Manager at FCC Environment, you will be responsible for; the health and safety of all staff, contractors to site and visitors to site, the minimisation of impact to the environment whilst operating the site, delivering customer expectations in terms of service and product quality, and operating the site in an efficient and effective manner in line with the annual budget.

Working closely with the Suffolk Contract Manager, site colleagues and key stakeholders, you will provide operational leadership across the sites within your responsibility.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, however, we will consider requests for job shares to suit your lifestyle (working full days).

What will you be doing?

- Deputise for Contract Manager as needed.
- Responsible for safe and efficient operational activities on all sites, in accordance with management instructions, health & safety and legislative requirements laid down in working plans, site and company procedures, planning permissions, waste management permit etc, whilst ensuring personal compliance with the above.
- Gain competency in the details of the Environmental Permits (and supporting environmental documents and procedures), health and safety risk assessments and safe working procedures, COSHH assessments, emergency procedures and other relevant health, safety and environmental documents as directed by the Company. Ensure compliance with the above and continuous improvement.
- Protect the Company’s ability to trade by ensuring compliance with relevant legislation at all times and especially that concerning health and safety in the workplace and the ’Duty of Care’.
- Manage plant and resources, including site operatives, to optimise the safe and productive operations and seek continuous improvement and production improvements. Operating site plant is not a prerequisite of the role, but mobile plant familiarisation will be key.
- Ensure that paperwork and administration associated with the role is carried out in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensure that all plant and equipment is operated, inspected, and maintained in accordance with company and site rules and ensure appropriate records are completed.
- Familiar with the sites’ weighbridge systems in accordance with the Duty of Care regulations, environmental permit and group policies and procedures and maintain reliable, adequate and accurate records.
- Train and mentor site colleagues and deal with performance and disciplinary issues under guidance of the Contract Manager.
- Work in accordance with staff rosters and ensure cover for planned/unplanned absence.
- Be courteous to customers at all times, providing exemplary customer service and to assist customers wherever safe, practical and necessary.
- Report to the Contract Manager any breach of rules, act of dishonesty, malpractices or corruption by any member of staff or site users.
- Advise management on staffing level, absenteeism, time keeping, and other staff related issues.
- Ensure agency staff, visitors and site users are inducted and briefed to enable them to go about their duties safely.
- Develop, install and maintain schedules of work, holidays and cover for absenteeism and sickness.
- Oversee and monitor the site operations, in terms of;
Safe Traffic and Pedestrian Management in accordance with the sites’ Traffic Management Plan and site rules
Loading of outgoing vehicles to maximise production
Housekeeping of all operational and administration areas
- Manage inspection, validation and tipping of customer’s vehicles and loads and direct to correct tipping area, deal with contamination and reject as necessary.
- Manage third party contractors
- Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by FCC management.
