Job Description:
About the Role: An inclusive SEN unit attached to a mainstream primary school in East Ham, Newham, is seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with Down Syndrome. The SEN unit caters to 7-8 pupils with varying needs and offers a nurturing and supportive environment to ensure every child thrives. This role requires a dedicated individual with prior experience working with children with Down Syndrome to provide tailored support for academic, social, and emotional development.
Key Responsibilities: *Provide 1:1 support to the pupil, ensuring their needs are met within the classroom and SEN unit environment.
*Adapt learning materials and activities to suit the pupil’s abilities, promoting engagement and participation.
*Collaborate with teachers and other staff to implement the pupil’s individualized education plan (IEP).
*Foster the pupil’s communication, independence, and social skills through targeted strategies and interventions.
*Assist with personal care and mobility needs as required, maintaining the pupil’s dignity and comfort.
*Monitor and record the pupil’s progress, celebrating achievements and addressing challenges.
Requirements: *Proven experience working with children with Down Syndrome, ideally in a school or educational setting.
*A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting children with additional needs.
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with the pupil, staff, and parents.
*Ability to adapt and work flexibly within a dynamic SEN unit environment.
*A commitment to promoting an inclusive and positive learning environment.
*Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant certificate or equivalent (desirable).
