Job Description:
The primary role of an underwriter will be to assess the level of risk connected with an application and determine if it fits within the company’s guidelines. Underwriter will analyse a client’s financial documents, credit history, and other information to make informed decisions on loan approval, interest rates or premiums, and other terms. They may request additional information, negotiate terms, and work closely with various departments to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. The individual will keep up with market trends that may impact their decisions, review financial statements, and data to update their guidelines. Due to the significance of the role, Underwriters are required to have excellent analytical, communication, and decision-making skills as well as comprehensive knowledge of financial instruments and markets.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
*Review applications for loans and other financial products to determine the risk level and the likelihood of repayment
*Analyse credit reports, financial statements, and other information to make informed decisions
*Ensure that loan and financial product policies and procedures are followed
*Communicate with loan officers, borrowers, and other relevant parties to obtain additional information
*Determine the appropriate loan amount, interest rate, and repayment terms
*Assess collateral or other assets to be used as security for the loan
*Evaluate the overall financial health of the borrower and their ability to repay the loan
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or economics
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· 3+ years of experience in finance industry, good if within underwriting or risk management
· Proficient in using different software and have exceptional communication skills
