Job Description:
Climate17 and the SBTi are recruiting for a Built Environment Engagement Specialist to drive engagement with companies, industry associations, civil society, and other global stakeholders. This pivotal role will contribute to the SBTi’s mission of promoting science-based emissions reduction targets across the built environment sector and catalyzing sustainability efforts across global economies.
This position will report to the Europe Regional Lead
This role plays an important part in advancing the adoption of science-based targets within the built environment sector, driving sustainable practices, and contributing to global emissions reduction efforts

About the SBTi:
The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set
ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies worldwide to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.
The SBTi defines and promotes best practices in science-based target setting, offers resources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets.

About the Impact Department:
The Impact Department plays a crucial role in engaging stakeholders across the corporate, financial, and NGO sectors to promote the work of SBTi and support the development and refinement of the SBTi’s standards, to advance ambitious corporate climate action to achieve emissions reductions at scale.
The department has one of the broadest remits among those within the SBTi, as it is responsible for delivering SBTi’s organizational strategy, fundraising and cultivating donor relationships as the SBTi expands, facilitating stakeholder engagement groups and public consultations as part of the standards development process, soliciting feedback from the market on standards’ relevance and implement ability, strengthening partnerships to address systemic barriers to decarbonization, and integrating SBTi’s standards within the broader climate action ecosystem to drive collaboration and harmonization.
Key responsibilities include: *Develop a Built Environmental engagement strategy that promotes adopting the SBTi building standards by identifying and prioritizing sub-sectors, regions, and organizations for engagement and identifying, initiating, and developing partnerships.
*Continuously understand SBTi’s evolving building standards, guidance, tools, and ongoing consultations.
*Collaborate closely with priority companies in the sector to provide expert guidance and support, addressing their inquiries and needs promptly
*Offer market insights on SBTi-built environment-specific standards and their practical implementation.
*Create tailored presentations and represent SBTi at relevant internal company and industry events, conferences, and meetings.
*Establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders to promote SBTi’s mission and build credibility within the industry.
*Together with the Communication Department and Technical Department, ensure that all SBTi materials and training resources in the Buildings sector are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with SBTi standards and guidelines.
*Collaborate with the Impact Research and Evidence Lead on data analysis to inform engagement strategies and identify opportunities for enhancing sustainability efforts.
Essential skills and experience needed: *4+ years of relevant work experience in the built environment sector.
*Knowledge of the sustainability challenges facing the built environment sector.
*Demonstrable knowledge of SBTi’s building standards, any related guidance and tools, and the SBTi validation process.
*Experience with designing and executing effective engagement strategies
*Strong analytical and project management skills to effectively handle complex tasks and initiatives.
*Proven ability to communicate effectively and build strong, trust-based relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
*Commitment to stakeholder engagement and market insights, understanding the dynamics of engagement within the built environment sector.
*Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment, fostering teamwork and cooperation.
*A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field is preferred, but not mandatory, if equivalent professional experience is demonstrated.
This is a full-time role, and the location is flexible but the UK, Germany, USA, Mexico, and France are preferred.
The salary for this role will depend on location and experience level. This role is a fixed term contract for 12 months with the possibility of an extension.
