Job Description:
We need a Cost Engineer to join our Business Management team at AWE within IPD.
It’s a truly exciting time to join us with a lot of scope for progression and work on fascinating projects within Business Management. (And don’t forget, every second Friday off!)
Location: Hybrid and flexible working, with our offices based in Berkshire between Reading, Basingstoke and Newbury with onsite parking and public transport services.
Salary: Starting at £38,140 this is open to upwards negotiation if you have the skills and experience that we need.
What’s exciting is:
You will be joining the business to be part of one of the most complex infrastructure programmes in the country at a pivotal moment in its evolution. The UK government has committed substantial investment into improving our infrastructure, so we are building a talented team to make the most of this opportunity. It is a new approach for AWE and we need someone who can support a new programme in its set up then evolution into a full, long-term project.
As a Cost Engineer, you will be working in Business Management with responsibility for all aspects of Cost within one of the Programme Controls Teams. You will be responsible for the establishment, development, maintenance of timely, accurate cost data, and reports, including forecasts, performance analysis, earned value, cash flows, and monthly reports on the Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP).
A typical day for a Cost Engineer within Business Management could look like this:
*Production and maintenance of accurate cost and cash forecasts in alignment with the Cost Assessment of all changes and accurate representation of approved changes
*Assisting with the development of cost systems and reports to ensure delivery of objectives
*Maintenance all cost data within the financial control system
*Provision of timely and focused cost reporting for key stakeholders
*Accurate assessment of the EAC
*Ensuring that earned value techniques and indices are correctly implemented
*Comparison and analysis of trends and identification of risk and opportunities
*Review, acceptance and integration of cost estimates and forecasts
*Adherence to governance and Cost standards and procedures
We would like you to demonstrate or have experience of:
*Professionally qualified with chartered or equivalent status
*Success in a Project Controls environment or similar Cost role within Business Management
*Adept with tech such as Cost tools, Excel and IT
*Building rapport and creating great relationships
*Motivating and building teams
What’s great about life as an AWEsome AWE Cost Engineer:
*Because you will be working in a highly classified environment with layers of complexity in terms of process, there is a sense of achievement - like crossing the finish line.
*Meeting deadlines - running on adrenalin and keeping the plates spinning whilst influencing and making yourself heard.
*It is not about filling out spreadsheets, it is about having the ear of key stakeholders and genuinely influencing decision making. It feels great when people ask for advice about how to go about things.
Everyone who works at AWE brings unique skills and perspectives to the table. We recognise that great people don’t always ’tick every box’. That’s why we focus on your potential, your fit with our values, your transferable skills as well as your experience. Even if you don’t meet every point below, but you feel that this role and AWE are a great fit for you, please go ahead and apply, we’d love to receive your application.
Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we’d like you to have experience in some of the following:
Some reasons we think you’ll love it here:
AWE has wide range of benefits to suit you. These include:
· 9-day working fortnight - meaning you get every other Friday off work.
· 270 hours holiday
· Market leading contributory pension scheme (we will pay between 9% and 13% of your pensionable pay depending on your contributions).
The ’Working at AWE’ page on our website is where you can find full details in the ’AWE Benefits Guide’.
Important things you need to know:
*You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.
*We want you to feel comfortable and able to shine during our recruitment process. Please let us know on your application form if you need any adjustments/accommodations during the process.
