Job Description:
Learning Support Teaching Assistant *Annual Salary: £14,530 (Pro rata, for hours and days worked)
*Location: Downlands Community School, West Sussex
*Job Type: Part-time, Term Time only
We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant team. This role is crucial in supporting pupils with various needs—social, medical, behavioural, or academic—to help them access the mainstream curriculum and reach their potential. The position also involves assisting pupils who are falling behind their expected progress trajectory.
Day-to-day of the role: *Provide both in-class and out-of-class support for individual pupils or small groups, coordinated and monitored by teaching staff.
*Assist with literacy and numeracy skills, clarify instructions, and help with recording information and homework.
*Motivate pupils to remain on task and provide support during school and external examinations as an invigilator, scribe, or reader.
*Offer assistance to pupils with physical disabilities in practical subjects.
*Modify written materials for accessibility, such as differentiation, enlargement, or simplification.
*Familiarise with pupil learning profiles and assist with documentation within the department, monitoring progress and helping pupils achieve their targets.
*Contribute to pupil reports and review Educational Health Care Plans.
*Attend pupil reviews and department meetings, reporting on the support provided and any challenges encountered.
Required Skills & Qualifications: *A level of education that supports the ability to assist pupils aged 11 to 16, including those preparing for GCSEs.
*Sound literacy and numeracy skills.
*Previous experience working with young people is desirable.
*Understanding of or experience in supporting pupils with additional needs.
*Good communication and interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to pupils’ needs.
*Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity when handling sensitive information.
*Some IT skills and willingness to learn school IT packages.
