Job Description:
Senior Policy and Programme Officer *Location: London SE1
*Job Type: Full time Temporary (6 months)
*Salary: £205.11 day PAYE or £262.85 day Umbrella
*Hybrid Working
Join the GLA Environment and Energy unit as a Senior Policy and Programme Officer in the Climate Change team. This role is crucial for supporting the Mayor’s manifesto commitment to improve the health of London’s rivers and other water bodies. You will play a key role in shaping policies and implementing projects focused on climate adaptation, particularly around water security and flood risk management.
Day-to-day of the role: *Convene and lead a roundtable of key stakeholders to lay the foundations for a 10-year plan to clean up London’s rivers.
*Collaborate closely with partners and other GLA officers, including the clean and healthy rivers team, the green infrastructure team, and relevant managers to develop the plan.
*Engage with a wide range of external stakeholders and teams across the GLA to deliver programme objectives.
*Provide detailed technical and water policy knowledge, evidence, and research to support the delivery of a clean and healthy rivers plan for London.
*Monitor and manage data related to the water industry and environmental regulations, focusing on flood management, ecology, and biodiversity.
*Handle a high-profile project with significant political support and scrutiny at City Hall.
Required Skills & Qualifications: *Experience in a technical environmental role, with a focus on water/flooding and climate change adaptation projects or policies.
*Strong understanding of the water industry and environmental regulations.
*Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced programme development environment.
*Excellent stakeholder engagement and partnership skills.
*Capable of handling data and monitoring information relevant to environmental and water policies.
*Not necessarily an engineer, but technical expertise in water, flooding, or climate change adaptation is highly beneficial.
