Job Title - Designated Safeguarding Lead
Contract - Permanent, Full-time
Location - Mitcham, Surrey
Salary - Up to £67,762
As a Designated Safeguarding Lead, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the needs of children and young people are fully recognised and met, helping to create a safe and supportive environment where they can thrive.
This is an opportunity to be part of a dedicated leadership team, reporting directly to the Head Teacher. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across multiple settings to develop your skills, knowledge, and expertise in safeguarding and education.
What You’ll Do
*Take responsibility for safeguarding within the school, acting as a key point of contact for matters related to wellbeing, child protection, and safeguarding.
*Liaise daily with statutory and non-statutory agencies, parents/carers, and staff, offering advice, support, and guidance.
*Be an integral source of expertise and leadership, ensuring the highest standards of care and protection for children and young people.
What We’re Looking For
*Experience working with autistic pupils, including those who are non-verbal and use communication methods such as Makaton, PECs, or PODD.
*An understanding of autism-specific strategies, such as TEACCH or Attention Autism, and the ability to implement these in practice.
*A flexible and creative approach to working with children aged 4-11, delivering a bespoke and accessible curriculum tailored to their needs.
*Experience managing challenging behaviour, with a commitment to understanding the function behind behaviours and supporting children to manage them effectively.
*Strong communication skills and the ability to think outside the box to engage pupils in their learning.
