Job Description:
Due to the forthcoming retirement of the incumbent Team Leader, a superb opportunity has arisen with a leading global broker. This prestigious firm controls perhaps the largest portfolio in the Leeds market, and certainly some of the region’s largest, most complex and best-known accounts, including blue-chip PLCs.
Here, you will manage a team of circa 12 Corporate Account Handlers who act in support of Account Executives and Directors on a variety of cases. Depending on each of your individual Handler’s experience, their cases could range from low 5-figure fee income, through to well into the mid 6-figure income brokerage. Clients can be from a range of sectors such as Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Haulage and Construction.
You will be responsible for allocating workloads, holding 1-2-1’s, and acting as a technical referral point for complex queries. In conjunction with Account Executives, you will ensure that the team remains alert to areas of potential under-insurance and is competent when it comes to suggesting innovative solutions to mitigate exposures to risk. To this end, you will also promote a culture of internal networking so that colleagues are aware of the full suite of products and services available on offer to clients.
In addition to managing a team, you will also personally act as Lead Account Handler on a small number of trophy accounts.
Whilst you can choose to remain in a more typical Team Manager role (as outlined above), we welcome applications from candidates who would like to expand their duties to include being involved in a variety of projects. These could include dealing with management information, assuming responsibility for some parts of insurer relations, looking at future workflow, controlling stakeholder relationships, or designing training academies etc.
It is essential that you have solid commercial insurance knowledge, including all common commercial covers. Whilst this needs not include exposure to six-figure income risks, you should certainly be au fait with middle-market cases generating fees in excess of £20,000. The ideal candidate will currently be a Team Manager or similar, although we will certainly look at candidates who are confident in their ability to step up into a managerial role.
You must be well-organised, with excellent task-management skills. Just as importantly, you’ll be a strong communicator, with the ability to understand the ’drivers’ of people from all walks of life.
This is a hybrid position, where you will be welcome to work from home several times per week (with scope to occasionally ’flex’ more than this to fit around family commitments). On days when you are in the office, you will be based in state-of-the-art premises within two minutes’ walk from Leeds Train Station, and close to all the shops, bars and amenities the city centre has to offer.
You will also benefit from a generous basic salary combined with a market-leading benefits package that can be tweaked to your own personal circumstances. Of particular note is the fantastic pension arrangement and other lucrative financial incentives.
