Job Description:
Learning Support Assistant / LSA with experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group setting, excellent communication skills and a calm but firm approach is required for a well-established Trust based in Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire.

SALARY: £24,027 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £16,708 per annum + Benefits
LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.45am to 3.150pm, term time only (39 weeks).
JOB OVERVIEW
Due to expansion, we have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant / LSAwith experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group setting, excellent communication skills and a calm but firm approach.
The role of Learning Support Assistant / LSA is a varied one and you will need to be adaptable and flexible - there will be opportunities to work within the whole class, teaching small groups and on a 1:1 basis with individual pupils.
As a Learning Support Assistant / LSA you will foster the participation of pupils in the social and academic processes of the school, enabling pupils to become more independent learners.
DUTIES
Your duties as a Learning Support Assistant / LSAwill include:
*Implement lesson plans, deal with pupil behaviour and make judgements about pupil progress/pupil needs normally in conjunction with the teacher
*Work with individual or groups of children, assist in ensuring pupils are kept on task and complete activities set by the teachers
*Deal with behavioural and special needs issues in conjunction with the teacher
*Help implement lesson plans
*Assist with testing and assessment
*Review progress against learning programmes
*Implement curriculum policies
*Work with outside agencies
*Undertake playtime supervision
*Attend training as and when required
*Be flexible to meet the needs of the school either working 1:1 with an SEN child or providing class support
*Maintain confidentiality and hold the trust and confidence of both pupils and teachers
*Work with ’children come first’ attitude, adhering to safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures to maintain the safety and wellbeing of all children
*Provide lunchtime supervision, either in the dining hall or on the playground
*Administer first aid in the case of a minor accident acting on the advice of the registered first-aider
*Be responsible for organising play activities in the playground or indoors if a wet playtime
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
*Have a child-centred approach
*Be able to create a structure for children with SEND needs
*Have the ability to work in an Early Years, KS1 or KS2 setting
*Have the ability to work under pressure and to a fixed timetable
*Have experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group setting
*Have the ability to keep pupils motivated and engaged
*Have a calm but firm approach
*Be able to adapt and think on your feet
*Be flexible and willing to learn
*Be able to attune to a child’s emotional needs
*Be able to work as part of a team, learning with and from other colleagues
*Be able to work independently and on your own initiative
*Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
*Demonstrate excellent behaviour management skills
*Understand confidentiality and safeguarding procedures
