Job Description:
What’s involved with this role: Interim Lawyer - Governance (Legal Services)Ref no: Sheffield 0009 8ADB / 1Pay Rate: up to £47.56 per hour PAYE DOEHours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hoursRole Length: This opening assignment is for 3-4 months City: SHEFFIELDHybrid workingKey responsibilities: *Advising on the legal requirements and limitations of a committee system of governance (including area committees)
*Advising on the legal requirements of the Council’s constitution and contributing to a review of the constitution
*Contributing to/advising on/reviewing/drafting policy documents and protocols connected with the operation of the constitution and the committee system
*Advising on the scheme of delegations within the constitution and the requirements for reports to decision-makers
*Advising on local government constitutional and administrative law
*Attending meetings as required
Key requirements: *Law Society admitted and Solicitor Regulatory Authority registered solicitor, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives or Bar Standards Board registered barrister.
*A thorough knowledge of that area of law, good advocacy skills and considerable experience in case management
*Familiarity with the modern committee system would be a definite advantage
*Ideally previous experience of advising on/drafting local authority constitutions.
*Experience of putting complex legal concepts into plain language
*Excellent communication and presentational skills both verbal and written including influencing and persuasion.
*Excellent ICT skills and a degree of administrative self-sufficiency although some secretarial support will be provided.
*Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
*Ability to absorb and interpret legislation, case law and procedures.
*Ability to assimilate facts and present these in a coherent fashion in order to facilitate desired results for the council.
