Job Description:
We are working on behalf of a Special Needs School in Birmingham who are looking to appoint a new Faculty Head of English. The school is currently undergoing exciting developments with a new building and an ambitious curriculum all aimed at driving improvements for their pupils, and which was highlighted in their last Ofsted inspection. Also noted in the inspection was that the staff are caring, and pupils, parents and staff are all united in their vision of moving the school forward.
The school provides secondary education for students with specific special educational needs: SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties), MLD (Moderate Learning Difficulties), ASC (Autistic Spectrum Condition) and a small number of SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health). All students have an Education Health Care Plan or are in the process of receiving one.
Students at the schoolwork on a differentiated National Curriculum, but some achieve up to GCSE levels. The school is looking for ideally an experienced English Practitioner to come and lead the team of teachers who deliver the subject across the school.
The role will involve the following:
*Being the pivotal person in making ongoing improvements in the English curriculum across KS3 & KS4
*Being someone with drive and a strategic vision, combined with highly effective communication skills that will encourage, motivate and lead.
*You need to be able to inspire young people to achieve their maximum potential and have an excellent understanding of the challenges they face.
*You will also be able to share their passion for English, have a proven successful track record and an ability to develop inspirational programmes of study.
*You will need to deliver consistently high-quality lessons which demonstrate good/outstanding teaching, have genuine enthusiasm to work with our young people who are at the very heart of all that we do, and thrive on challenge in order to attain positive outcomes.
