About the Role:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced finance professional to join our team. The key responsibilities include:
*Leading the management of the annual final accounts closedown project, resulting in the production of the audited accountability statements (the statement of accounts, the annual governance statement, and the narrative statement).
*Providing expert, technical, and commercial financial advice to members, the corporate leadership team, and officers at all levels to support sound decision-making on matters of financial governance and propriety.
*Ensuring the completion of all relevant reporting, including committee reports, government returns, and the preparation of anti-fraud and anti-money laundering policies.
*Monitoring the effectiveness of existing financial governance and financial prevention policies, identifying deficiencies, and reporting to senior management and members to agree on improvement responses.
*Supporting the DS151 Officer in delivering a busy finance function with 50 budget holders and multiple reporting stakeholders, including public published reporting.
About You:
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following criteria:
*Qualified accountant with full membership of a UK chartered accountancy body (Essential).
*Up-to-date technical knowledge of local government finance and accounting standards (Essential).
*Successful track record of establishing a corporate and service performance culture, with a desire to continually improve standards and performance (Essential).
*Experience in financial management and budget planning, including setting and managing the budget for a service group (Essential).
*Experienced finance leader with strong financial and commercial skills (Essential).
*Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex financial issues diplomatically (Essential).
*Strong negotiation skills and detailed knowledge of the local authorities’ financial climate (Essential).
