Job Description:
Sporting events are vital for raising funds, and awareness of Alzheimer’ Research UK, as we search for a cure for dementia.
Every year Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Sporting Events team encourages supporters to take part in events and organised challenges. Last year, fundraising from these events totalled £3.5 million!
Your role would be to promote participation in The Great Northern Mud Run (also known as ’Total Warrior’) on behalf of Alzheimer’s Research UK. You will be using your local knowledge to promote the event by contacting local groups, putting up posters, sharing on social media/forums etc.
The event takes place 21st – 22nd June 2025 at Bramham Park near Leeds. There are various race options – Ultra, 12k, 6k and Junior (3k ages 6+). So a lot of different people may be interested in taking part.
You will need to dedicate regular time to promoting the event to keep momentum up. Promotion could start ASAP and can run until May 2025, or until we fill all our places! We would anticipate you might need about one hour a week to do the role well. This is a very flexible role that you can fit around your other commitments.
We can reimburse reasonable out-of-pocket expenses such as travel to venues, when agreed in advance.
The skills you need
*Proactive approach and confidence to approach others
*Existing local knowledge, and / or able to carry out own research into local groups
*Good communication skills
*Able to interact politely with members of the public, other volunteers, and staff at all times while representing Alzheimer’s Research UK.
The benefits for you
*We will provide some training on who Alzheimer’s Research UK are, and how to approach groups and represent us.
*If you wanted to take part in any of the events (Ultra, 12k, 6k or Junior) we could offer you a complementary place.
*Great way to gain experience, or make use of existing skills.
*Your support will help raise funds for vital dementia research, and accelerate progress towards a cure.
*We will ask you what you think, listen to what you have to say, and value your feedback.
*To keep you up to date with what’s happening in our volunteering community, we’ll send you our regular e-newsletters.
