The Role
The Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the technical implementation and maintenance of the organization’s services and infrastructure, encompassing both on-premises and cloud environments.
This role entails provisioning, deploying, and sustaining these systems to align with business needs. You will be putting their knowledge, communicational skills and experience into practice to provide our customers, both internal and external, with outstanding service and support.
What will you be doing
Our business places a strong emphasis on innovation and relies heavily on software applications, making this role essential for ensuring service continuity and driving business growth.
· You will take a pivotal role in the design, build and management of the on-premise servers (Windows), virtualisation (Hyper-V) and our cloud infrastructure (Azure). This includes working on both physical and virtual hardware.
· Ensuring scalability, reliability and security of our infrastructure and collaborating with cross functional teams to meet business requirements.
· Monitoring and maintain the performance and availability of our infrastructure including regular maintenance such as patching and updates.
· Implementing and maintaining security measures to protect our infrastructure including ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
· Leading infrastructure projects from initiation to completion
· Ensuring our network and infrastructure documentation is grown and kept up to date for team reference and audit.
· Reporting on infrastructure performance, incident and improvements
The team operates a shift pattern to ensure core business hours are covered (8am-6pm ) the person in this role needs to be able to both think tactically and also deliver a robust IT service.
Must be willing to travel to all GC locations, including field sites with a requirement to be in HQ minimum of once a week.
Expected to provide standby out-of-hours support on a rota.
Skills, experience & qualifications
· Demonstrable knowledge and experience with infrastructure including Virtualisation (Hyper-V), physical servers (windows) and storage.
· Proficient Windows server 2012-2019, AD, DNS, DHCP, Failover manager etc.
· Demonstrable experience with implementation of and backup maintenance (Veeam)
· Experience with on prem data centre maintenance and management.
· Demonstrable Azure Management (VM’s, NSG rules, Storage accounts etc) to be able to
effectively contribute to the gradual migration of our environments to the cloud.
· Excellent demonstrable hands on experience configuring and maintaining network devices such as Firewalls (Palo alto/Cicso ASA), Switches, WiFi and Routers
· DR implementation and regular testing
· In depth working knowledge of networking principals and technologies such as VLAN, CIDR, LLDP, VRRP, SNP etc
· The ability to create and maintain technical documentation with a good attention to detail.
· Hardware and software patching/firmware upgrades
· Asset management
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deal with staff at all levels of the business along with being able to explain requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences.
· The ability to work on your own initiative but fully recognise the importance of being a part of a wider cohesive team.
· Be able to prioritise and organise your workload to meet deadlines.
