Job Description:
Senior M&E Engineer
c.£70,000 per annum plus excellent benefits
The National Theatre’s mission is to make world-class theatre, for everyone. The National Theatre (NT) creates and shares unforgettable stories with audiences across the UK and around the world. On its own stages, on tour, in schools, on cinema screens and streaming at home, it strives to be accessible, inclusive and sustainable. For more information about the NT, you can visit nationaltheatre.org.uk.
The National Theatre is a Grade 2* listed building and perhaps the UK’s pre-eminent 20th-century example of Brutalist architecture, using a limited material palette used to maximum architectural effect. This truly unique building has a floor coverage of over 57,000 sq.m. with a basement car park, substantial public foyer spaces, three auditoria, rehearsal rooms, office spaces and a complex of backstage spaces for technical resources and support areas, alongside costume making and construction workshops. All designed to make the NT self-sufficient in the theatre making process. The portfolio extends to two other sites, the grade 2 listed National Theatre Studio in The Cut and The Hire Department Store in South London.
Reporting to the Head of Estates Capital Projects, the post will be responsible for supporting the Estates Capital Projects team in all project engineering matters for its wide portfolio of capital projects. This portfolio includes the programme of NT Infrastructure Upgrade projects to be delivered by March 2026. The role will act as a point of contact for Contractors, Designers, NT Project Managers, external Project Managers and the Programme Manager for all engineering related queries.
This is a unique and compelling client-side project engineering leadership role. The successful candidate will possess relevant experience in an M&E project management role, having delivered a variety of building services and infrastructure projects across a diverse variety of building types during their career. We are seeking an individual with a high motivated, enthusiastic and receptive disposition and the interpersonal and communication skills to operate successfully with a diverse range of stakeholder group.
Setting a culture where there is more representation in the work force, on the stage and in our programming and where staff and freelancers can succeed and thrive has been a central plank of our vision for the National Theatre. Our ambition is to achieve greater diversity in the areas of gender, race, disability, sexuality, socio-economic background, faith and age.
For a confidential discussion, please contact our retained advisors Nicholas Coppard or David Craven at The Management Recruitment Group.
Closing date for applications is Sunday 26th January 2025.
The Management Recruitment Group have been exclusively retained for this appointment. All direct and third-party applications will be forwarded to them.
