About Us
We are a specialist school offering a highly individualised, holistic education to students aged 11-19 with autism and additional learning and communication difficulties. Our mission is to provide a nurturing, structured, and therapeutic environment where each child can develop their confidence, skills, and independence.
Our curriculum is thematic, engaging, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of our students. We prioritise functional skills, communication, and well-being while preparing students for adulthood through the Preparation for Adulthood framework, covering Good Health, Independent Living, and Relationships & Community.
Our large, exceptional site includes a Forest School, horticulture area, nature trail, playing fields, outdoor cycle track, and more, creating a rich learning environment that supports sensory, physical, and academic development.
The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Special Education Teacher to join our team. You will work closely with other teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver a bespoke, child-centred curriculum that addresses the unique needs of our students. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, teaching, and assessing a small class of students with autism and additional disabilities, following individualised learning plans that reflect each child’s needs and progress.
Key Responsibilities
*Develop and deliver a tailored curriculum to meet the needs of students with autism and additional disabilities, based on the Triad of Impairments (social communication, social interaction, and restricted/repetitive behaviours).
*Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of teachers, therapists, and support staff to create and implement individualised education plans (IEPs).
*Support students in the development of functional and independent living skills.
*Use a Total Communication approach to enhance students’ communication and interaction.
*Encourage and support students in developing self-esteem, confidence, and skills for adult life.
*Provide a low-arousal, flexible teaching environment that supports individual learning styles.
*Assess and track students’ progress, adapting teaching methods to ensure the best possible outcomes.
*Offer additional support in areas such as sensory circuits, rebound therapy, outdoor activities, and community-based learning.
Key Qualities and Qualifications
*Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
*Experience working with students with autism and additional disabilities, preferably in a special educational needs (SEN) setting.
*Knowledge of strategies for supporting students with autism, including Positive Behaviour Support and Total Communication.
*Ability to work flexibly and creatively to meet individual student needs.
*Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary teams.
*A commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment for all students.
Why Work With Us?
*A highly supportive and inclusive team environment.
*The opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students with autism and additional disabilities.
*Access to a wealth of professional development opportunities.
*A large, beautifully maintained site with outstanding facilities, including outdoor learning spaces and therapeutic areas.
*Competitive salary and benefits package.
If you are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of young people and would like to contribute to a school that prioritises personal development, independence, and holistic care, we would love to hear from you!
