Job Description:
Job Title: Criminal Solicitor
Location: Sheffield & Rotherham
Salary: Competitive (Please advise salary expectations)
Working Hours: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with after-hours police station and Saturday court work on a rota basis
Hybrid Working: Office-based
About the Role:
Our client, a wellestablished and highly respected law firm, is looking for a highly competent and motivated Criminal Solicitor to join their successful and busy crime team in Sheffield and Rotherham. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated solicitor with experience in criminal law, seeking to develop their career in a supportive, dynamic environment.
You will play a key role in representing clients in the Magistrates’ Courts, handling cases from start to finish, and providing essential advocacy in court. The firm values its employees and is committed to providing excellent career progression opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
*Court Advocacy: Conducting advocacy in the Magistrates’ Courts for a range of criminal matters.
*Client Representation: Providing representation at police stations, advising clients during the investigation stages, and ensuring that their rights are protected.
*Case Preparation: Managing your own caseload, meeting clients, preparing cases for court, and liaising withother professionals as necessary.
*Rota Work: Participating in after-hours police station duty and Saturday court work on a rota basis, ensuring comprehensive client representation.
Key Skills & Experience Required:
*Accreditation: Crime accreditation and Police Station Accreditation essential.
*Clean Practicing Certificate: Must hold a valid Practicing Certificate at the time of applying.
*Experience: Proven experience in criminal law, with strong advocacy skills and a history of successful representation in the Magistrates’ Court.
*Client Care: Excellent client care skills with the ability to deal with vulnerable client matters in a sensitive, empathetic manner.
*Management Skills: Strong management abilities, with experience handling caseloads efficiently and prioritizing tasks under pressure.
*Team Player: Committed to being a proactive and adaptable team player, supporting your colleagues and firm objectives.
*IT Proficiency: Excellent IT skills, familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management systems.
*Self-Motivated: Ability to work independently, using initiative and sound judgment, while managing high-pressure situations and tight deadlines.
Additional Information:
*Size of Team: 7 members in the Criminal Department.
*Reporting to: Head of the Criminal Department.
*Court Coverage: Primarily Sheffield and surrounding local courts, depending on client instructions.
