Position Title: UK Payroll Manager - Temp to Perm
Department: Finance
Reports To: Finance Director
Location: Remote initially and London at some point in the future

Our client is a high growth UK based software business with a recent NASDAQ listing. They are Headquartered in London and all employees work remotely (might change in 2025)
Job Summary:
The UK Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the payroll function for the company’s UK operations. This includes ensuring that all employees (and external contractors) are paid accurately and on time, adhering to all relevant UK payroll legislation, tax laws, and regulatory requirements. The Payroll Manager will also play a key role in providing payroll insights, liaising with external authorities. This is a stand alone role with no resource supporting you. This is an immediate need and the ideal candidate would be someone immediately available and interested in a permanent role but the client would consider a temp to perm.
Key Responsibilities:
*Payroll Management: *Manage the end-to-end payroll process for all UK employees (salaried, hourly, contractors, etc.) - approximately 30 UK employees and 30 external contractors.
*Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time, including payments to employees, HMRC, pension providers, and other third parties.
*Perform monthly and weekly payroll reconciliations.
*Review and validate payroll data before submission, including hours worked, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
*Compliance: *Ensure full compliance with UK employment law, including tax laws, National Insurance, pension contributions, statutory payments (SMP, SSP, etc.), and other deductions.
*Stay updated on changes to payroll-related legislation and implement necessary changes within the payroll system.
*Submit and manage PAYE returns, P60s, P11Ds, and other statutory documents to HMRC.
*Ensure that all payroll filings and payments are made in accordance with HMRC deadlines and other government regulations.
*Reporting & Analysis: *Produce regular and ad-hoc payroll reports for senior management, HR, and finance teams.
*Analyze payroll data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvement.
*Work closely with the Finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting of payroll costs.
*System Management: *Oversee the management of the payroll system, ensuring its efficiency and integration with other HR and finance systems.
*Manage system updates and troubleshooting, ensuring the payroll system operates correctly.
*Implement process improvements or changes to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency.
*Stakeholder Communication: *Liaise with external authorities such as HMRC, pension providers, and auditors.
*Handle sensitive payroll-related queries from employees and resolve any payroll-related disputes.
*Maintain strong communication with internal departments to ensure a smooth payroll process.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
*Experience: *At least 5 years of payroll experience, including a minimum of 2 years in an autonomous, stand alone, role.
*Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll processes.
*Familiarity with UK payroll legislation, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
*Strong understanding of PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, and other deductions.
*Experience with payroll software (e.g., Sage, ADP, or similar systems).
*Skills: *Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
*Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
*Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex payroll data.
*Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
*Leadership and team management skills.
*Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) and payroll software.
Personal Attributes:
*Proactive, reliable, and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
*High level of confidentiality and integrity when handling sensitive payroll data.
*Ability to work collaboratively with various teams and stakeholders.
Working Conditions:
*Full-time position working remotely - with the need to travel to London office on occasion.
