The Sheffield College is a further and higher education college that provides academic, vocational, and professional qualifications to approximately 14,500 young people and adults a year. Our mission is transforming lives through learning. The college, which is Ofsted graded ’good’, provides high quality academic, technical, and vocational training to enhance qualifications, skills, and employability across the region, and operates from a number of campuses and sites across the city.
We are seeking a new Director of Governance who will provide leadership, advice, and support in relation to governance activities, statutory matters, and regulatory compliance in line with best sector practice. Working closely with the Chair and the Board of Governors, you will play a key role in ensuring they fulfil their remit and contribute meaningfully to the strategic direction of the college, promoting sound standards of governance and providing relevant training and guidance. Our Board of Governors, which this role will support, is impactful and ambitious for the future, providing effective challenge and support for the college to succeed. This role provides ample opportunity for a forward-thinking individual to bring fresh ideas and to develop new ways of working.
Our successful candidate will bring robust experience of working in a governance role, with a thorough understanding of corporate governance, including the operation of a Board of Governors. We are flexible regarding sector background, if you are confident in interpreting legislation and policy, and able to provide authoritative advice. Strong communication and organisation skills are of key importance, as is the ability to prioritise and to work on your own initiative.
