Job Description:
The Climate Data Steering Committee (CDSC) was established by French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions Michael R. Bloomberg in June 2022 in response to the global climate data challenge. The CDSC - which brings together leaders from a broad set of international organisations and standard setters, plus a diverse set of jurisdictions - aims to accelerate and help build a broadly accessible foundation of high-quality climate data that is critical to delivering the net-zero transition.

The CDSC has set out a vision for the development of an open data utility for private sector climate transition-related data: the Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU). As envisioned by the CDSC, the aim is for the NZDPU to become a global, centralized, open repository for private sector climate transition-related data, that is freely available to all stakeholders helping to accelerate efforts to direct capital to low- or zero-carbon investments, and provide the ability to monitor progress against emissions reductions targets. The CDSC oversees the ongoing development of the NZDPU and works collaboratively to maximize the useability and accessibility of core climate transition-related data.

We are looking for an experienced and effective individual to head the day-to-day work of the CDSC secretariat and in so doing to work to ensure that CDSC deliver on their vision for a transparent and effective climate transition data ecosystem supported by an effective NZDPU. The role would entail managing the governance, processes and policy responsibilities of the CDSC, in close collaboration with those delivering data and technical solutions around the NZDPU, with a view to ensuring the CDSC can drive global improvements in the climate data and disclosure ecosystem. The role requires someone who is strategic and ambitious on climate disclosures and has a deep understanding of the requirements and practicalities of disclosing core climate data and can develop and implement a strategy building support from a broad set of external partners. Literacy in the data and technical challenges that exist around climate data and disclosure would be welcome. Your prior experience may come either from public or private sectors, and so from policymaking or as a preparer/user of such disclosures that has regularly engaged with policymakers.

We’ll trust you to:
*Show thought leadership, underpinned by a high degree of literacy on, the wide range of policy and technical issues arising from climate transition data and disclosures at the international level and in key jurisdictions, with a strong "can do" attitude to developing and pursing solutions at the international level;
*With support from the Managing Director, manage the governance, membership and wider processes for the CDSC effectively, ensuring that we understand the priorities of CDSC members and can set and deliver on an ambitious but achievable forward strategy to improve climate transition data and disclosures globally not least by delivering on the vision for the NZDPU;
*Relatedly, run the annual schedule of CDSC Principals and Delegates meetings, ensuring these are scheduled in a timely manner, materials for the meetings are prepared and circulated well in advance and that we record, communicate and progress decisions made by the Committee appropriately and effectively;
*Support the Chair of the CDSC and other Leaders through time including briefings for formal CDSC meetings and events, bilateral engagements and on governance, membership and policy issues arising through time;
*Develop and maintain effective senior working level relationships across the institutions and jurisdictions represented on the CDSC and beyond to support the work of the CDSC and the forming of strategic partnerships. Stay informed on and communicate on key developments or initiatives from major climate data stakeholders and CDSC members across the team;
*Support engagement with the wider preparers and users of climate transition data, and the wider climate data ecosystem, to stay abreast of developments, opportunities and challenges, and work collaboratively to make progress on improving the climate transition data ecosystem;
*Oversee the work of a Secretariat lead who would support you across the portfolio and work closely with the data and technical team delivering the NZDPU to understand the opportunities and challenges faced, and seek to identify and progress solutions that leverage the policy clout and expertise on the CDSC;
*Ensure effective communications and outreach on the work of the CDSC and the NZDPU including at the international level, in fora including COP, G7, G20. This would include supporting the Chair of the CDSC or Managing Director in their external engagement as well as directly representing the CDSC.

Expectations:
*A track record of being a thought leader on climate data and disclosure frameworks, underpinned by a very strong understanding of the state of play on, policy and technical solutions gained through 5-8 years’ experience in either relevant public policymaking or private data preparer/user roles (or both);
*Some experience of, or a willingness to learn, about governance structures and policy and communication norms for complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives with public sector participation;
*A demonstrated ability to show thought leadership and to plan and deliver policy-based work underpinned by high quality and at times technical analysis and informed by effective stakeholder engagement;
*A self-starting, well organized and creative approach to developing policy project ideas and ensuring that a robust delivery plan is developed and executed on time;
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills such that you can discuss complex policy with a broad set of senior through to technical stakeholders across a diverse set of countries and contexts, and across public and private sector;
*A track record of game changing engagement on complex policy issues to understand and reconcile the perspectives of a diverse set of stakeholders across some combination of international organisations and technical bodies, national policymakers, financial institutions and the voluntary sector;
*Strong team player, willing to develop strong relationships, and to pitch in and support work across our global effort as and when needed.
