Job Description:
The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is a global coalition of financial institutions committed to accelerating the decarbonisation of the economy in line with governments’ commitments under the Paris Agreement. Financial institutions - numbering over 675 firms from 50 jurisdictions - have committed to the goal of net zero by 2050, in line with science-based pathways to limit warming to 1.5 degrees C. GFANZ was established in 2021 as a forum for delivering sector-wide solutions for net-zero transition, helping to ensure high levels of ambition are met with credible action that support transition globally. Learn more about GFANZ at www.gfanzero.com.

As a key focus, GFANZ is working with local and global partners to unlock transition finance in support of emerging markets and developing economies seeking to accelerate their energy transitions. Our work is organised through a CEO-led workstream on Mobilising Capital progressing cross-cutting solutions, informed by country-specific work in support of Country Platforms including Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs), and input to wider policy initiatives such as those in support of COP and the G7/G20.

To support our exciting work to mobilise private capital in support of energy transition we are looking for an experienced, highly motivated and effective individual. The successful candidate will act as a senior member of the team to drive forward strategic and technical work on the Indonesia and Vietnam JETPs and more broadly. The role will entail frequent contact with various stakeholders including but not limited to governments, financial institutions both public and private, as well as technical partners. The role requires a deep commitment to ensuring the JETPs and equivalent initiatives succeed, a clear understanding of the role GFANZ can play, as well as the roles of other stakeholders, an ability to both contribute to the strategic thinking related to the JETPs and wider work as well as drive forward technical tasks focused on implementation of work to drive projects and financing. It will require excellent stakeholder management skills, a good understanding of the opportunities and challenges of energy transition in EMDEs and a sense of the role finance can play in supporting progress.

This role will be located in the GFANZ central secretariat in London and be part of a team of around 6 people in total. The role will involve regular collaboration across the GFANZ secretariat including with capital mobilization and policy teams.

We’ll trust you to:
*Be a critical part of the team by contributing strategic insight on how to drive forward the mission of mobilizing private capital as well as helping us design and implement practical solutions. Examples of this work are identifying key frictions around financing of energy transitions and actioning solutions to overcome those- which combine technical and financial aspects of the energy sector - working with a diverse set of public and private sector stakeholders.
*Represent GFANZ in stakeholder engagements and workstreams to support the JETPs and wider initiatives, building and maintaining excellent relations with key stakeholders across government, other international partners, multilateral development banks, and private and financial sectors.
*Develop an excellent sense of the energy transition priorities and how those can be advanced and financed effectively, spotting opportunities to support governments in their transition objectives, and work patiently to deliver policy, project and financing solutions that unlock tangible results.
*Support briefing of the GFANZ leadership team and work closely and seamlessly with the wider GFANZ central secretariat and regional networks to advance common priorities and draw on wider expertise and resources.
*Have a clear sense of the contribution that private finance - local and global - can play in contributing to wider efforts towards a successful energy transition, informed by regular interaction with financial institutions, and ensure delivery of the input needed to the JETPs and wider work in a timely and effective manner.
*Ensure that the approach being taken at the country level aligns with the broader frameworks and approaches being developed across GFANZ’s capital mobilisation work and input your practical learnings and expertise into our wider capital mobilisation and regional efforts, so that we actively learn by doing and make progress on cross-cutting issues around private capital mobilisation for energy transition.

Expectations:
*5+ years of experience of working in supporting strategic thinking and program management of complex implementation projects ideally with experience in emerging markets and developing economies.
*Experience and knowledge of the energy transition ideally with some technical knowledge of the power sector combined with knowledge of the financial sector.
*Proven experience of working strategically and effectively with public and private sector stakeholders and building relationships across differing levels of leadership.
*Expertise in some combination of energy transition, policy contexts, and climate finance. Experience in at least two is expected and all three would be an advantage.
*Strong ability to take a strategic approach while also being able to work independently to deliver practically as part of a complex multi stakeholder project.
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
*Excellent visual presentation skills.
*A strong team player, able to work constructively and collaboratively across local and global stakeholders.
*Willingness to undertake some travel internationally particularly to the JETP countries.
