Job Title: Designer - Waterproofing
Location: Central London Office, Home Working & Travel to Sites
Salary: £30,000 - £45,000 (Basic Salary)

Spencer & James, in partnership with a well-established family-run multidisciplinary Main Contractor, are seeking a talented Designer to contribute to large-scale waterproofing projects across London. If you’re passionate about delivering technical excellence, value-driven designs, and collaborating on projects from concept through to completion, this opportunity offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact on high-profile projects.
What You’ll Be Doing As a Designer, you’ll play a critical role in supporting pre-construction and construction teams. You’ll coordinate technical information across all RIBA Stages (1-7), ensuring project designs align with company standards and industry best practices. Key responsibilities include:
*Design Coordination: Ensure compliant designs, manage design risks, and provide value-driven solutions to minimize rejections and delays.
*Project Support: Collaborate with teams during tender stages, create pre-construction design programs, and manage Contractors Proposals production.
*Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with design consultants, statutory bodies, and the supply chain to ensure alignment with project goals and deadlines.
*Construction Collaboration: Oversee design during construction, manage changes, and ensure timely delivery in line with schedules and budgets.
*Quality Assurance: Conduct audits, secure client approvals, and maintain consistency between design intent and construction outcomes.
What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation and a proactive approach to solving complex design challenges. Requirements include:
*Experience: At least 2+ years in a technical design role, focusing on roofing, waterproofing, or façade/ cladding projects with a Main Contractor.
*Education: HNC/Degree in Construction or an Architectural-related subject.
*Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD and awareness of BIM in construction.
*Competencies: Detail-oriented, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
