SEN Teacher
We are looking for SEN Teacher candidates for a variety of long term and permanent vacancies throughout Greater London.

What are the SEN Teacher benefits?

What do we mean by SEN?
SEN is a broad church and there SEN schools throughout London providing opportunities for an SEN teacher to specialise working with students who have a diverse range of needs. These SEN teacher jobs include specialist settings in the following areas:
ASD - Autistic learners need a creative, engaging and sensory approach to teaching with time and patience required so they can process information and ideas. Lessons are focused on equipping pupils with the skills to live as independent and full life as possible.
SLD - Severe Learning Difficulties pupils are often pre-verbal, have developmental delays and additional medical needs. These pupils need to be engaged and supported on their learning journey. Communication is at the forefront of SLD learning as pupils learn to understand the world around them as well as their own emotions.
PMLD - Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties pupils have significant developmental delays that significantly affect their ability to communicate and be independent. Someone with a profound and multiple learning disability might have difficulties seeing, hearing, speaking and moving.
SEMH - Social Emotional and Mental Health divides between pupils whose behaviour can be disruptive and challenging and those pupils who have issues around things like eating disorders, self harming and depression. These pupils need time to build trust and regain their confidence. If you have a sense of humour, patience, the ability to build relationships and an empathetic nature alongside strong behaviour and classroom management skills you can really make a difference.
MLD - Moderate learning difficult pupils are now more often supported in mainstream schools with a 1:1 TA but some schools do exist that offer a slightly quieter environment providing pupils with the support to maximise their potential.
What support can you expect as an SEN Teacher?
London SEN schools expect that they will need to support and train all new staff whether they’re an experienced SEN teacher or not. London SEN schools know that every child is different and your approach to teaching them needs to be bespoke. No SEN teacher can walk into a classroom and teach a pitch perfect lesson without knowing the pupils and catering their approach to meet their needs. London SEN schools spend more time and money to up-skill their staff than any other type of school which means you’ll gain lots of skills and knowledge as well as plenty to put on your CV. This means a career to date in mainstream is no barrier to entry. Expectations are realistic and leadership know that new SEN teacher staff need time, support and guidance along the way!
